Biography

Jim Hartung competed for the University of Nebraska, helping them to four consecutive NCAA team titles (1979-82), while winning the all-around in 1980 and 1981. He also won NCAA titles on the parallel bars (1981-82) and rings (1980-82). At the US Nationals, Hartung won the all-around in 1981 and won 12 apparatus titles between 1978 and 1982. He made the 1980 US Olympic team which did not compete because of the boycott. At the 1984 Olympics he helped the US to the men’s team title. He later returned to the University of Nebraska as a coach, and also became a brevet level judge in the US.
