Biography

Max Hess competed in four events at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. He competed in the individual all-around (31st); the individual all-around, apparatus work (50th); the individual all-around, field sports (=10th); and the team all-around, apparatus work and field sports (1th). Hess represented the Philadelphia Turngemeinde. He was born in Bayern, Germany but came to the US as a youth. Hess worked in the family company store in Philadelphia, Hess & Young.
