Biography

Kornelia Kunisch was on the bronze medal winning East German handball team at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. She also won gold at the 1978 Worlds and a bronze in 1990. She played 260 international matches with the GDR national team and scored 675 goals.

Domestically, Kunisch played with SC Magdeburg and after German re-unification with TuS Eintracht Minden until 1996. She was named 1983 Handball Player of the Year. In 1981, she helped Magdeburg win the East German Championship. Kunisch was the top scorer of the GDR Oberliga in 1980 and 1989. She studied sports and later became a handball coach and a physiotherapist. Her son Christoph played professional handball at GWD Minden.
