Handball player Stanka Bozovic was born in Montenegro but moved to Austria during the Bosnian War. From 1990-2000 she played with the Austrian national team and won the bronze medal at both the 1996 European and 1999 World Championships.
Bozovic qualified with Austria for the 1992 Barcelona and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. On both occasions the team finished fifth. In total, she Bozovic won 220 international caps and scored 910 goals.
At club level Bozovic played with ŽRK Budućnost Podgorica, Belinka Laibach, ESBF Besançon, Verona, Nit-Hak Nittedal, Tulln, Stockerau, and for 13 years with Hypo Niederösterreich, helping them to win the European Champions Cup in 1992. Bozovic’s son Janko also became a handball professional.
