Biography

Right-wing handball player Marlies Waelzer came sixth with the German team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She won 32 international caps and scored 42 goals. Domestically, she played with TuS Alstertal (until 1990), TSV GutsMuths Berlin (1990-91), TV Lützellinden (1991-93), TuS Wallle Bremen (1993-96), Buxtehuder SV (1996-98), SV Werder Bremen (1998-2000), and SC Buntekuh Lübeck (until 2004).

In 1992, she won the German Cup with Lützellinden and the following year, the European Cup Winners’ Cup. With TuS Walle Bremen, she won three German national titles 1992-94, the German Cup in 1994 and 1995, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup again, in 1994.

By profession she became a graduated architect and had her own office in Hamburg. She also coached youth teams in Hamburg.
