Biography

Handball player Stephan Hauck competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but the East German team finished a disappointing seventh. He played with German national teams (former GDR and re-unified Germany) on 240 occasions, and scored 552 goals. In 1986, he won the bronze medal at the World Championships and in 1990 the East German team finished eighth. The re-unified German team placed tenth at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Domestically, Hauck played with SC Dynamo Berlin until 1990. After re-unification he moved to 1. SC Berlin, then HC Preußen Berlin (1990-91) helping them to win the first German title after re-unification. He then played for VfL Hameln (1991-97 and 2000-02) and Eintracht Hildesheim (1997-2000). Hauck started a coaching career after his retirement, becoming Regional Coach at the Berlin Handball Federation in 2005. He married speed skater Angela Stahnke-Hauck.
