Biography

Lightweight Mexican judoka René Arredondo represented his country during the 1960s, competing at multiple international tournaments including the Olympics and Pan American Games. In 1964 Arredondo was part of the Mexican delegation that competed at the Tokyo Olympics, but he only won one of his three pool matches. He redeemed himself when he won gold at the 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Juan and bronze at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. After his competitive career he became a coach and a member of the executive committee of the Mexican Judo Federation. His brother Luis also competed in judo at the Olympics and Pan American Games.
