Biography

Mario, son of Wolfgang Behrendt, was an East German bantamweight boxer who lost his first bout at the 1980 Moskva Olympics against Romanian Dumitru Cipere by a 5-0 decision. The same year Behrendt won the national title in the featherweight class, which was his third national title. By profession, Mario Behrendt worked as an electrical engineer and first became a factory manager at the Samsung works at Schöneweide. He later became CEO of German Solar AG at Freiberg.
