Biography

Wim Van Belleghem was a Belgian rower who competed during the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1987 Van Belleghem won gold in the single sculls at the World Rowing Championships in København. One year later he teamed with Alain Lewuillon in the coxless pairs at the Seoul Olympics, where the duo just missed out on a medal after finishing fourth. Van Belleghem had further success at the World Championships in the single sculls, winning silver in 1989 and 1990, followed by bronze in 1991. He returned to the Olympics for the 1992 Games in Barcelona, this time rowing in the quadruple sculls, with the Belgian crew finishing sixth in the B Final to place 12th overall. Van Belleghem later ran a car showroom and a transport company in his hometown of Bruges.
