Winslow McCleary coxed the Canadian eight at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. Unfortunately, the Canadian crew was drawn against the British Leander Club in round one, with Leander narrowly defeating the Toronto crew. Two years earlier he already was in the coxswain seat of Toronto, winning the junior eights at the Canadian Henley regatta.
McCleary married Laura Irene Payne in 1917 and worked for the post office department.
