Biography

George Beaumont was a member of the Nottingham Union Rowing Club that dominated fours rowing in the latter part of the 1920s. Despite winning most regattas they contested in 1927 they were disappointing the following year when eliminated in the first round at the Amsterdam Olympics. Beaumont competed in the Wyfold Challenge Cup at Henley with the Nottingham club on a couple of occasions. He was also a sculler in his early days at Jesus College, Cambridge, and competed in the Colquhoun Sculls. The coach of the Nottingham Club during its heyday was Beaumont’s father Rupert.
