Biography

Silvia Fröhlich rowed on the gold medal-winning East German eights at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. At the World Championships she collected two gold medals in 1982 and 1983, both times with Marita Sandig in the coxless pairs. She also won a silver with the eights in 1979, and with the coxed fours in 1981. Due to the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, she could not defend her Olympic podium.

In 1984, Sandig and Fröhlich won the East German pairs title, as they did with the eights in 1979. By profession, Fröhlich was a dentist at Oberkotzau in Bavaria.
