Biography

Rower Gisela Medefindt was on the East German gold medal-winning crew that won the quadruple sculls at the 1980 Moskva Summer Olympics. She rowed in the heats but, due to injury, could not participate in the repêchage and the final race, when she was replaced by Jutta Ploch. In 1974 Medefindt won a double sculls bronze medal at the World Championships.

Domestically, Medefindt won her first East German title in 1974 with the quadruple sculls. In 1976, she won both the single and double sculls titles, and in 1977 won the quadruple sculls. In 1978 she won three medals: silver in the single, gold in the double and bronze in the quadruple sculls.
