Biography

Rowing cox Marina Wilke was a member of the East German gold medal winning coxed eights at both the 1976 Montréal and 1980 Moskva Olympics. In 1975, she also won the gold medal at the World Championships with the eights, and in 1979 added a silver medal. In 1977, she added another World Championship gold with the coxed fours. Domestically, she won national titles with the eights in 1975, and with the fours in 1977.

In 1989 she moved to Australia with her husband Harald Jährling, who became sporting director of the Australian Rowing Association. Their son Rob Jahrling also participated as a rower, in the 1996-2004 Olympics, representing Australia. Wilke returned to Germany after divorce.
