Biography

Dana, twin sister of Anja Pyritz, was a member of the German eights at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics that won the bronze medal, comfortably ahead of the rest of the field. Dana Pyritz replaced Ina Justh in the competition as Justh had a ruptured appendix shortly after the opening ceremony. The crew was subsequently awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Four years later Pyritz and her sister were both in the eights that finished eighth at Atlanta.

Dana also won the bronze medal at the 1993 World Championships and the gold medal the following year. In 1995, she won the silver medal in the coxless fours, and in 2001 and 2002 added two bronze medals with the eights. Her last international medal came in 2003 when she won her fourth bronze, with the coxless fours at the Worlds.

Nationally, Pyritz won the eights title in 1993, 1997, and 1998, and the coxless fours in 1995. By profession, she worked as a secretary with the meat production company Schröder at Saarbrücken.
