Biography

West German rower Hans Betz, brother of Peter Betz, finished fifth, and last, in the final with the coxed eights at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. With his club Kölner Ruderverein von 1877 he won the German national titles in 1950 and 1952 and in 1951 finished second. In 1953 Betz switched to the coxless fours and finished second in the Nationals before winning the title in 1955 when he also won the eights title and collected the bronze medal at the European Championships.
