Biography

West German rower Heinz Zünkler finished fifth, and last, in the final with the coxed eights at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. With his club Kölner Ruderverein von 1877 he won the German national titles in 1950 and 1952 and finished second in 1951. In 1953 Zünkler moved to the fours claiming German coxed titles in 1953 and 1954. He also rowed in the coxless fours, coming in second in 1953, and winning the German titles in 1954 and 1955. This crew also won the eight’s title this year, and the bronze medal at the European Championships. Zünkler later worked as a manager with Quarzwerke AG in Köln.
