Coxswain Giovanni Spinola represented Canottieri Falck in Dongo and competed in international rowing events for Italy in the 1960s. In 1964 Spinola was part of the Italian coxed fours crew that won bronze at the European Championships in Amsterdam. This was the perfect preparation for the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo where the same team of Spinola, Renato Bosatta, Emilio Trivini, Giuseppe Galante, and Franco De Pedrinawon silver, finishing second to the crew from the Unified Team of Germany.
