Biography

Olaf Bjørnstad was the coxswain of the Ormsund Roklub’ inriggers coxed four at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. A first place in the heats and a defeat against Sweden in the semi-final were enough to win bronze in this event. Bjørnstad was the manager of the chemical-technical factory ‘Favoriter’, where his father worked as a foreman. Born under the name Olsen, he later took the name of his father’s birthplace as his surname. In 1936, at the age of 53, he married Gudvor Elisabeth Hveem.
