After graduating from the local automotive technical school, Maciej Łasicki became a rower, representing AZS AWFiS Gdańsk from 1983 until 1998. During this time Łasicki won 12 Polish titles in a variety of rowing disciplines including the coxless fours, coxed fours, pairs, and double sculls. In 1991 he won bronze in the coxed fours at the World Championships in Wien, earning a place on the Olympic team in the process. At the Barcelona Games the Polish crew started poorly, finishing fifth in their heat to advance to the repêchage, but managed to qualify for the A Final, where they won bronze.
Now competing in the coxless fours, Łasicki returned to the World Championships, winning silver in 1993 in Račice, before winning bronze two years later in Tampere. Whilst preparing for the Atlanta Olympics, however, Łasicki suffered a fall in the Spanish resort of Sierra Nevada, breaking his arm in three places. Despite multiple surgeries, his arm never fully recovered, with his rowing career coming to an abrupt end.
