Walter Steiner was a Swiss rower who represented SC Richterswil. In 1972 Steiner was selected to be part of the crew for the coxless fours at the München Games. The Swiss team finished second in their heat to advance to the repêchage round. They then won their next race, advancing to the semi-finals, but finished down in fifth. From there they advanced to the B Final, again finishing fifth, to place 11th overall.
