Biography

During the late 1960s and the early 1970s Lithuanian rower Apolinaras Grigas competed for the Soviet Union. In 1967 Grigas was part of the eight crew that won bronze at the European Championships in Vichy. One year later he was selected to compete in the coxless pairs with Vladimir Rikkanen at the Mexico City Olympics. After finishing fourth in their heat, the pair then advanced to the repêchage; however, they failed to finish the course and were eliminated. Grigas had further success at the European Championships, winning another bronze in the eight in 1971 in København, followed by silver in the coxless fours in 1973 in Moskva.
