Biography

Judy Geer rowed for Dartmouth, transferring there from Smith College in 1973 after Dartmouth opened up its college to women in 1972. She was a pioneer rower there, leading the first women’s crew team. Geer competed at both the 1976 and 1984 Olympics, also making the 1980 team which did not compete. She was a sculler who also competed at five World Championships (1977, 1979, 1981-83), but never quite made a podium.

After college Geer coached the Dartmouth women rowers from 1977-79, including her sister, Carlie Geer. After the abortive 1980 Olympic attempt, she returned to school at Dartmouth, earning a masters’ in engineering in 1983. In 1985 Judy Geer married 1972 Olympian Dick Dreissigacker, who she had met through rowing. They work together with a company he had started, Concept2, which manufactures and sells composite oars and other rowing supplies. Geer-Dreissigacker started in manufacturing and software development with the company, but switched over to marketing. The Dreissigackers two children Hannah and Emily both competed at the Winter Olympics, Hannah in 2014 and Emily in 2018, in biathlon.
