Biography

Laura Staines grew up in New Jersey and had never rowed before college at the University of Pennsylvania. She helped Penn win the NWRA (National Women Rowing’s Association) title in the eights and coxed fours in 1972. Graduating from Penn in 1975, she continued to row with the College Boat Club. Formerly Laura Terdoslavich, she met her first husband, Mike Staines, while rowing in college. Laura Staines studied architecture and later helped form L&M Design LLC, a Philadelphia architectural firm, with her second husband, Michael Giardino.
