Biography

Steve Christiansen started rowing at Rutgers University, but later attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1979 with a degree in international relations. He also competed for the College Boat Club in Philadelphia. Christiansen had only been rowing for two years when he made the 1976 Olympic team. He competed at the Pan American Games in 1979, winning a bronze medal in the coxed four, rowing in the same boat at the 1979 World Championships, where they placed fourth. Christiansen was named to the 1980 Olympic team that did not compete. He became an international banker, working in the 1980s with the American section of National Westminster Bank, a British bank.
