Biography

Ralph Purchase was the coxswain for the Cal/Berkeley eight at the 1948 Olympics. Though Cal had had an indifferent season, losing twice to Washington during the year, they defeated the Huskies in the semi-finals of the Olympic Trials and won the gold medal in London without losing a race. Purchase later became a high-ranking executive with the Zellerbach Corp.
