Biography

A longtime sport shooter, Paul Laporte was versed in many disciplines, but specialized in skeet. He won the World Championships in this event in 1973 and was selected to represent Canada in it at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where he was joint-56th, with Sandhu Singh Gurbir of India and Francisco Romero Arribas of Guatemala, out of 68 competitors. By career he worked for decades as a wingshooting instructor, but also ran the Rôtisserie Laurier barbeque restaurant in Montreal that had been started by his father in 1936. In 2010 he sold the business to a group of investors, including celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey.
