Biography

At the inaugural meeting of the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association on 27 April 1928, Charles Lucas was elected its first chairman. He also captained the English Clay Pigeon team from 1929. Lucas was regarded as one of the finest clay pigeons shots in Britain and he won the national title both before and after World War II

In 1952 Lucas captained the two-man British team at the Helsinki Olympics. His fellow team-mate was Welshman Enoch Jenkins, who finished 14th, with Lucas 24 points behind in 35th place. In 1935, the two men had tied for third place in the Irish Open Clay Pigeon Championship. Upon returning from the Helsinki Games, the 68-year-old Lucas continued with his pastime of playing golf and, just two weeks after his Olympic appearance, had a hole-in-one (ace) at the 141-yards 16th hole on the Folkestone Golf Course. By profession, Lucas was an estate agent and auctioneer
