Biography

Ernest Pocock was an excellent clay bird shot. He was a member of the Middlesex Gun Club, based close to his home in Hendon. While most of his competitive shooting was confined to local club tournaments, he was still selected for the trap shooting event at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics.

Pocock was also a keen race walker and was a member of the Surrey Road Walking Club. In 1914 he was a member of the Surrey RWC “A” team that won the Road Walking Championship. Although Pocock was not one of the four members of the squad whose result counted towards the Championship, he still managed to finish 13th in the individual race out of 67 finishers. Also in 1914, Pocock competed in the AAA 7 Miles Waking Championship, and finished 18th out of 25 starters.
