Biography

Pistol shooter Johann Garreis competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, finishing an unfortunate fourth in the free pistol event. In 1956, 1960, 1961 and 1965 Garreis won the East German Championship. In 1962 he also won a team bronze at the World Championships, representing East Germany. Garreis was trained as a milker, but later joined the Nationale Volksarmee (National People’s Army).
