Sports shooter Mario Gonsierowski finished 20th in the 50 metres small-bore rifle prone event at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. He won the team silver medal at the 1986 World Championships, which was his best international result. Gonsierowski became a national rifle coach after German re-unification. In 2008, he wrote a textbook about rifle shooting training methods.
