During the 1970s and 1980s Solomon Lee competed in sports shooting at multiple editions of the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. At the latter Lee won gold in the 25 metres rapid fire pistol in Brisbane in 1982. He competed in the same event at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where he finished 47th and 37th, respectively. For the 1984 Games he also had the honour of being the flagbearer for Hong Kong at the Opening Ceremony.
Lee had a lifelong affiliation with the boy scouts, eventually becoming the vice-chair of the Hong Kong Scout Association in 2007. In 1961 he graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong where he became the trustee of the United College in 2009. Lee made multiple contributions to the community and education sectors in Hong Kong and was recognised with a doctorate degree by the Hong Kong Open University in 2008.
