Biography

Gyula Szabó started his sports career at Egri MHSZ in 1964. Szabó started shooting in running targets during his military service in 1967 and won that year’s national championship in the individual and with the team of Egri Honvéd. He then was named to the national team. From 1968, he worked and competed for the Forestry of Miskolc.

Szabó was a nine-time Hungarian champion and at the Olympics finished 13th in 1972 and 9th in 1976. He placed second four times with the Hungarian team at the World Championships. In 1974 and 1975 he was selected as the shooter of the year in Hungary.
