Cheng Shi-Chen served as a police officer, a career in which he was able to hone his skills in sport shooting. He represented Taiwan in two major international competitions: the 1966 Asian Games and the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. In the latter, he took part in the free pistol, 50 metres tournament and placed 56th. The following year, he resigned from the police and moved to the United States to run a catering business in San Francisco, from which he retired in 1992. Both before and after his retirement, he also served in several leadership roles for the Chinese community in Northern California.
