Biography

Jim Poindexter attended Southern Cal, graduating in 1971, and then joined the US Air Force, competing as a 2nd lieutenant in 1972. Poindexter had started sport shooting from an early age, winning California age group championships from 1961-63 and 1966. He won three California senior titles with perfect 200s in 1971, 1976, and 1979. He was Californian doubles champion in 1971 and 1973 and won the all-around trophy in 1969. Poindexter won the 1979 Golden West Grand Shoot with a 200 possible. He was inducted into the California Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 1984, the youngest member ever to be enshrined. He retired from competition in 1982 because of inner ear problems that affected his hearing and balance.
