Biography

Beryl Marshall of Hindú Club in Buenos Aires was one of the top female swimmers in Argentina in the mid to late 1940s, and was recognized across South America as one of the rising stars in her sport. After winning multiple juvenile championships, she won her first national title as a teenager at the age of 13, and by 1946, held national records in the 100 metres backstroke, along with the 500, 1000 and 1500 meters freestyle. Chosen to represent her country at the 1948 Olympics in London, she competed alongside 15 year-old Liliana Gonzalías in the 100 metres backstroke event. Finishing in fourth place in her preliminary heat, Marshall advanced to the semifinal, where she was eventually eliminated after placing in 8th.
