Biography

Alfredo Bourdillón began swimming when he joined Club Atlético Estudiantes, before also taking up rowing with the Paraná Rowing Club. Bourdillón later moved to Rosario in central Argentina to study medicine, but dropped out to focus on his swimming career. After becoming a national champion, he was selected to represent the national team, winning gold in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay at the 1964 South American Aquatics Championships in Ecuador. That same year Bourdillón was also part of the Argentine quartet that swam in the same event at the Tokyo Olympics, placing 11th overall. He remained committed to sports in his local community, often giving talks on his experiences. In 2012 Bourdillón was one of several Argentine Olympians who were recognised at an event held in Municipality of Paraná.
