Biography

Debbie Palmer swam four events at the 1972 München Olympics, making the final of the 200 backstroke and the 4x100 free relay, and helping Australia set a new Commonwealth record in the relay. At age 15, Palmer had won the Australian Championship in the 200 backstroke, for which she was selected for the 1972 Olympics. Palmer had switched to training with Harry Gallagher earlier in 1972 in an effort to make the Olympics. She was the fifth South Australian swimmer to make the Australian Olympic team.
