Biography

Georgina Roty was a freestyle swimmer who competed for France at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. She competed for the Tourcoing Enfants de Neptune club. In 1926 she was runner-up in the 400 freestyle at the French Championships, and helped her club win the 5x50 metre freestyle relay. She also finished second in an open-water event, the swim across Paris.

Roty married Marcel Benoît Comblez in April 1933. She continued competing at local events until just before the start of World War II. She died on 27 May 1940 when Tourcoing was bombed by Axis powers. She is buried in the main cemetery of Tourcoing, with the mention “Death for France” as a civilian victim.
