Biography

As a 13-year-old, Peggy Gomm competed in the 200 yards breaststroke at the 1934 British Empire Games and just missed out on a medal in fourth place. She came close to winning the ASA breaststroke title on two occasions, finishing runner-up to Doris Storey in both 1936 and 1937. Gomm qualified for the Berlin Olympics, and reached the 200 metres semi-final. She continued swimming into the mid-1950s. She donated the Peggy Gomm Cup to be presented to the winning girls team at the annual Wembley Secondary Schools’ Swimming Gala.
