Biography

German freestyle swimmer Andreas Szigat was on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay squads at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He won the bronze medal in the short relay, although he only swam in the heats. With the longer distance, the squad finished an unfortunate fourth. In 1994, he won the 4x200 freestyle relay bronze medal at the World Championships as a member of the final squad.

Szigat was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award, in 1993. By profession, he later became marketing director of Markbrandenburgische Sparkasse Oberhavel in Oranienburg.
