Biography

Zsuzsa Nádor competed in tennis and swimming during her high school years. In 1944 she was deported because of her Jewish origin and only survived thanks to a brave escape. After the end of World War II Nádor continued as a swimmer and achieved significant results. She competed for UTE between 1943 and 1945, and then for FTC between 1946 and 1948. She won her only championship gold medal in 1945, with UTE’s 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay. In 1947 she won gold with the Hungarian freestyle relay at the World College Championships in Paris and bronze in the 100 metres backstroke. She left for London in 1947 for her studies, but she still competed for Hungary at the 1948 Olympics, swimming in the 100 metres freestyle but failing to reach the final.

After the Olympics she worked as a swimming instructor and coach in London. Nádor was already over 60 when she started competing again in the masters category. After her death the regulars of her favourite swimming pool had a memorial bench erected in the pool area in memory of Zsuzsa Nádor and her husband.
