Biography

Marguerite Dockrell was the third member of the Dockrell family to compete in the Olympic Games. Her uncle George Dockrell was a swimmer for Great Britain and Ireland in the Olympics in 1908, and six days before she swam in the 100 m freestyle heats in the Olympics in 1928 her brother Hayes Dockrell played for the Irish Olympic water polo team in their defeat against Belgium. As a member of Dublin Swimming Club Marguerite won the Irish 100 yards freestyle championship in 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1933, and the 220 yards freestyle title in 1927, 1928, 1929, and 1930. Like her brother Hayes she was educated at Trinity College Dublin.
