Biography

Eladio Herrera made his Olympic début for Argentina at the 1948 London Games, where he competed in the welterweight division. There, after receiving a bye in round one, he defeated Humberto Loayza of Chile before being stopped by Hank Herring of the United States, the eventual silver medal winner. Herrera had better luck in 1952 in Helsinki, this time as a light-heavyweight, where he bested Ardashes Saginian of Iran, Josef Hamberger of Austria, and Guido Mazzinghi of Italy before losing against upcoming gold medalist László Papp of Hungary, which left Herrera with bronze.

Herrera then turned professional, but had a very brief career as a welterweight. He won his first bout against Miguel Luchesi in March 1953, but did not fight again for almost two years, at which point he lost to Ubaldo Sacco and subsequently retired. He then turned to teaching the sport and coached out of the Almagro Boxing Club in Buenos Aires.
