Alfred Davis

Alfred Dais was educated at Borlase School in Marlow and then University College, Aberystwyth. He went on to became a leading sporting administrator. He was a member of the Football Association from 1892 and was vice-president from 1908 until his death. He was also chairman of the Amateur Cup Committee and a member of the international selection board. Davis was also the honorary secretary of the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire FA from 1895.

In addition to his football positions, Davis was on the committee of the Amateur Rowing Association, the Thames Punting Club, and was secretary of the Thames Amateur Rowing Association. He was also a member of the Buckinghamshire County Council, a Justice of the Peace (JP), and member of the Marlow Urban District Council. Davis was a fine journalist and was the rowing correspondent for The Times for many years. His finest footballing moment came in 1908 when he was coach to the Great Britain team that won the gold medal at the London Olympics.
