Biography

Charlie Cyr was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, and grew up in Madawaska, Maine, where he competed in figure skating at high school. After his graduation from the University of Maine Cyr completed his degree in radiology technology at the Central Maine Medical Center, before moving to Cooperstown, New York to work as a radiology technologist. In 1980 he moved to Palm Desert, California to begin working at the Eisenhower Medical Center (EMC) where he met his future wife.

Cyr worked at EMC for 40 years in a variety of roles while also becoming a judge for the International Skating Union (ISU). For the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics he was the team leader for US figure skating and later served as a judge for the ice dance competition at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Cyr helped with his contributions to create the ISU Judging System and in 2014 he was appointed as the ISU’s sports technical director for figure skating.
