Born in Stockholm’s Solna district, Ernst Hodell later lived in Göteborg. He acted as a referee in Swedish league matches from 1907-12. In 1915, went to the United States for the first time and then moved to Åmål in Central Sweden and was employed as a railway officer. From 1926, he worked in New York as an engineer. He returned to Sweden several times and eventually died in Göteborg’s Nylöse neighbourhood.
