Igor Prokop began ice skating at a local club in Žilina, which had been co-founded by his father. Prokop retired early from his skating career but went on to become an accomplished judge in the sport. With the International Skating Union (ISU) he worked as both a judge and referee for single and pairs skating competitions. In addition to multiple ISU championships Prokop officiated at the Winter Olympics in Albertville (1992), Torino (2006), and Vancouver (2010). From 2002 to 2016 he worked on the organising committee for the ISU European Figure Skating Championships in Bratislava. In addition to his work with the ISU Prokop was an IT specialist and worked at the Slovak National Library.
