Bill Lewis was a successful businessman, builder, figure skater, and international skating judge. Born in New Westminster, British Columbia in 1928 Lewis graduated from the University of Washington and became an influential member of the community in his hometown. In addition to being a member of the Vancouver Stock Exchange he also served as the President of both the chamber of commerce and the New Westminster Business Improvement Area, and owned an insurance brokerage company.
Lewis was an accomplished figure skater in his youth and was the Canadian junior men’s champion in 1948. In 1949 and 1952 he won silver at the Canadian senior championships, in addition to competing at the 1951 World Championships in Milano. He then became a judge in the sport, officiating at multiple international competitions including the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics. As a builder Lewis helped to co-found a winter club and a skating club in British Columbia. In 2015 he was inducted into the BC Yukon Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
