Biography

Although referred to as Paul Leroi in the 1948 art catalog, it could be confirmed that his real name was Pierre Robert Leroi. He worked for the Ministry of Finance before he was appointed chief of staff for physical education by the Minister of Health and Physical Education in 1934. In this capacity, he also became the government’s representative in the French National Olympic Committee.

From the 1920s at least well into the 1940s, Leroi contributed to various publications as a music critic. One of his most cited articles was an interview with Maurice Ravel in the daily Excelsior in 1931.

In 1934, Leroi was already vice-president of the Paris football club Red Star Olympique and went on to become a member of the board of the Fédération Française de Football (FFF) and president of the French Hockey Federation. Here he succeeded, for instance, Frantz Reichel and Marc Bellin du Coteau. Still president of the Hockey Federation, he attended the 1948 London Olympic Games, where he acted as a member of the jury of the musical art competitions. In Melbourne, in 1956, he was a member of the international jury for hockey.
